"Selig sind die Friedfertigen" / "Blessed are the peacemakers" 2018: Tour of UK Cathedrals

In 2018, we are touring cathedrals and churches in the UK and Belgium to commemorate the end of the First World War. The fighting ceased one hundred years ago this November. As reflected in the name of the tour, we are remembering in particular the “peacemakers” - people and organisations who attempted to prevent or shorten the conflict. These include Joseph Allen Baker, Karl Max von Lichnowsky and even Pope Benedict XV - names which have been too easily forgotten, and contributions which are too often overlooked. If you would like to read more about the peacemakers and their work, we suggest that you start with the hyperlinked articles. As a bridge between past and present, each of our events will also highlight the work of a contemporary peace initiative, including UNESCO, Médecins Sans Frontières and Peace Now. To support the project, DCL received full financing from charitable sponsors the Kaiser Wilhelm II Trust, the German YMCA London and St Paul’s Trust London. Tour dates are shown below.
